Ointment for Scalded Wounds

Hot spilling can cause skin burns. To overcome this, you can apply an ointment for scalded wounds, after taking first aid measures. In addition to pain, scalded can also cause burns to the skin. The severity of burns from being scalded can vary depending on the location and extent of the affected skin area.

First Aid Hot Scalded

When scalded, do not immediately apply the ointment, but give first aid to the burn first. The following are the first aid steps that need to be taken when scalded:
  • Flush skin with running water or tap water, for at least 20 minutes. Don't use ice cubes, ice water, or oily ingredients, like butter.
  • If the hot water area covers a large part of the body, do not soak in cold water. This can cause loss of body heat and it will worsen the condition of a burn.
  • Remove all jewelry or clothing near hot scalded skin areas. However, if there are items that are attached directly to the wound, do not remove it so as not to cause more severe damage to the skin tissue.
  • Cover the wound with a bandage or a clean, damp cloth.
  • If possible, position the scalded part higher
  • If skin blisters, don't break it.
  • If the wound hurts, take pain medications, such as paracetamol.

Use a Special Ointment Scalded

After doing the first aid above, you can apply a cream or ointment for scalded wounds. But keep in mind that this ointment should only be used on minor burns. Some examples of creams or ointments for scalded wounds are:

Silver sulfadiazine ointment

This ointment is commonly used to help prevent and treat infections in burns. Silver sulfadiazine works by stopping bacterial growth and reducing the risk of its spread to the surrounding skin area. This ointment should not be used on premature babies or babies who are only 2 months old, because it can cause side effects. Before applying silver sulfadiazine ointment, first clean the affected skin area with hot water. Use this ointment regularly until the burned area is completely healed.

Sorbolene cream

Burns can make the skin dry and itchy, even after recovering. To reduce this complaint, you can use water-based sorbolene cream. Meanwhile, to reduce scars, you can use sorbolene cream mixed with vitamin E. In addition to the two ointments above, you can also lightly apply petroleum jelly or aloe vera to a scalded wound. Avoid the use of ointments or creams that contain sodium lauryl sulfate, as they can make dry skin worse. When suffering from scalded burns, do first aid and use ointments for burns as described above. In addition, do a doctor's examination to find out the severity of the burn and get further treatment.
